Getting Started

Managing Raw Materials

Build your ingredient library, enter supplier costs, and keep nutritional data up to date.

Adding a Raw Material

Go to Library → Raw Materials and click New Raw Material. Enter the ingredient name and select the appropriate food category.

You can also create raw materials on the fly while building a recipe — if the ingredient doesn't exist yet, you'll be prompted to add it without leaving the recipe builder.

Entering Supplier Costs

Each raw material can have a purchase price and pack size recorded. Enter these under the Costing tab on the raw material record.

For example, if you buy flour in 25 kg bags for $28.00, enter 25 kg and $28.00. Batchbase calculates the cost per gram automatically, which is used for all recipe cost calculations.

Adding Nutritional Data

The Nutrition tab lets you enter per-100g values for each raw material. You can enter values manually from a supplier specification sheet, or use the Search FSANZ Foods shortcut to import from the AUSNUT database.

Accurate raw material nutrition is the foundation for automated nutrition panel calculations in your spec sheets.

Managing Allergens

Under the Allergens tab, select all allergens present in the raw material. Batchbase uses this to generate the allergen declaration on your product spec sheets automatically.

If a raw material is processed in a facility that also handles allergens (cross-contamination risk), you can flag this separately — it appears as a "may contain" statement on the spec.
